Frequently Asked Dental Questions – Garland, TX
Ask Your Garland Dentist
Have dental questions? The team at North Garland Family Dental will always take the time to answer them, because we believe that patient education is just as important as the hands-on services we provide. Below, we’ve gone ahead and answered some of our most popular questions, but if there is anything else you’d like to ask, don’t hesitate to give us a call.
How often should I go to the dentist?
You should visit the dentist at least twice a year for a checkup and cleaning, and you should also schedule an appointment as soon as you notice an issue, i.e. pain, a chip, sensitivity, discoloration, etc. This proactive approach will help you avoid the most common dental issues and enjoy strong oral health for years to come.
Should I use an electric or manual toothbrush?
Both types of toothbrushes are proven to be effective at cavity prevention, so if you have good oral health with your current brush, then there is no need to switch! It mostly comes down to preference, but we do recommend electric brushes for young children and people with mobility issues, as they make it easier to thoroughly clean the teeth.
Is flossing really that important?
Yes! Flossing is able to clean the small spaces between your teeth that your toothbrush can’t reach. You can get cavities between teeth, and they are quite tricky to repair! By taking a minute in the evening to floss, you can literally save yourself hundreds of dollars in dental care as well as hours spent in the treatment chair.
Are bleeding gums a big deal?
Many factors can cause the gums to bleed on a regular basis. The best thing to do initially is brush and floss with less pressure for a few days and see if this helps. If not, then you may have minor gum disease, in which case you should schedule an appointment with us. You won’t be able to take care of the infection yourself, but our team can provide treatment to get your oral health back on track quickly.
Will you accept my dental insurance?
Our dental office is in-network with Cigna, MetLife, Guardian, and Delta Dental, and we’re happy to work with many other policies as well. Just give us a call with your coverage information handy, and we’ll go over how we can use your plan.
I don’t have dental insurance. How else can I pay for my dental care?
You can take advantage of one of our special offers, or you can sign up for our dental membership plan. It offers many of the same benefits as regular insurance, but it costs a lot less, and there are fewer restrictions and annoyances. We also offer flexible, low-to-no interest financing through CareCredit.
